2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Mixed Reception

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct direction.

The president expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Below is the entire content from Ismailer's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its ambition to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the incoming Lead of the team. Following several months of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the progress of the game in the months to follow.

David

Experience of the Incoming Head

The appointee currently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a community playtest. Then, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every match. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or take a risk, gamble everything, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or consoles, but players can anticipate more updates as development continues.
